In 2016, The Lions Club of the City of Adelaide committed to supporting the Prostate Cancer Research Team at the South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) by funding a scholarship.
The scholarship involves providing $25,000 over five (5) years to help fund an honours student to be employed to work within SAHMRI’s Prostate Cancer Research Team, each year. The scholarship is for a total of five (5) honour students who show promise in the area of research.
In 2023, the scholarship was renewed for another five (5) years, with the scholarship funding increasing to $50,000 over five (5) years – $10,000 per year.
The research conducted by this team is focused on improving the clinical management of prostate cancer, through the development of new treatment strategies and more accurate, and non-invasive, markers of the disease.
The Prostate Cancer Research Team is led by Professor Lisa Butler.
