The City of Adelaide Lions Club, and Club Member Dean Scott, have had a long association with the Eye Bank of SA (EBSA) which is situated at Flinders Medical Centre. The EBSA was the first eye bank in Australia and is still a world leader in its field and was set up in 1984.
In their first year the City of Adelaide Lions Club donated their first major piece of equipment and we, with other Lions Clubs, have been very supportive of their work in cornea replacement. From that date until 1999 Dean Scott was initially Treasurer of Lions Eye Care Foundation and then became the Executive Director (voluntary position) for about 7 years and over this period of time the cost of operating the EBSA was met from funds generated by the Foundation.
The foundation raised monies from Lions Club throughout SA with the City of Adelaide Lions Club, and member contacts, being the largest contributors. This morning, Dean Scott proudly presented a cheque for $20,000 to the Eye Bank of SA. $15,000 of this amount was provided by a close contact of Dean Scott’s. Words cannot express our gratitude and that of the Eye Bank of SA.
Margaret Philpott (pictured) has been the EBSA manager since the early nineties and will retire on 31 October 2014. Steve (also pictured) will be the new manager.
