“The Royal Flying Doctor Service is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world, providing extensive primary health care and 24-hour emergency service to people over an area of 7.3 million square kilometres.
Delivered by a dedicated team of professionals, using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, and supported by a vast number of volunteers and supporters, the RFDS is vital for those that live, work and travel in rural and remote Australia.”
The Lions Club of the City of Adelaide believes that the Royal Flying Doctor Service is an extremely important organisation and provides tremendous assistance, support and care to those who would otherwise not have access to such help.
Lion Dean Scott regularly calls into the Royal Flying Doctor Service office to deliver Lions Mints and on his last visit was involved in a discussion about their medical equipment needs. As a consequence they emailed him a list of needs for use in the aircraft that call to remote areas of South Australia and the Northern Territory. He contacted a few of his more affluent clients and asked them to consider donating. One client has already committed to buy 3 items of medical equipment at a cost of $93,000 and another has verbally indicated they will help and believe for a similar amount.
While not a Lions project it has resulted from having a guest speaker from the Royal Flying Doctors Services come speak to our Club and Dean’s long term relationship with the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
