The Lions Club of the City of Adelaide is proud to sponsor the ‘South Australian Citizen’s Award’, and to present it annually with the South Australia Police to the person who performs extraordinary service to assist police in the performance of their duties.
The award consists of an individual shield, a perpetual shield, and a framed citation outlining the basis for the nomination.
The recipient is selected from nominations submitted by Local Service Areas, branches and sections of SAPOL across the State. Nominations are based on letters and Certificates of Appreciation which may have been presented to members of the public in recognition of assistance given to SAPOL in the performance of police duties during the past year. The nominations were made and adjudicated upon by the award selection panel consisting of The Lions Club of the City of Adelaide members and senior SAPOL members, with Commissioner Grant Stevens ratifying the successful nomination.
It is with great pleasure that we officially announce that the recipient of the South Australian Citizen’s Award for 2017 is Mr Dennis Obst, in recognition of his ongoing commitment to assist South Australia Police.
To give you all an appreciation of Dennis’s commitment, I would like to share with you the wording from his award citation:
“Dennis has served as President of the Neighbourhood Watch Volunteers Association of SA for the past five years and as a member of the Board of Management for nine years, in addition to his role as Area Coordinator for Felixstow. He has been instrumental in driving a strong and effective partnership between Neighbourhood Watch and SAPOL during a crucial time of growth.
Renowned for his commitment and leadership, Dennis has played a significant role in the recent expansion of Neighbourhood Watch both online and in the community. He has been integral to developing a formal Memorandum of Understanding between SAPOL and Neighbourhood Watch to ensure their long-term collaboration, while also building links between police and the community at a local level.
Dennis’ efforts are commended and worthy of special recognition with this award.”
The award presentation was made by the Police Commissioner, Grant Stevens, and the Lions Club of the City of Adelaide’s President, Andrew Stacey, at the Lions 201C1 District Convention Gala Dinner on Saturday October 7th. Unfortunately Dennis was not able to attend the Convention Gala Dinner as he was interstate. Sergeant Susan O’Connor received Dennis’s award on his behalf.
On Thursday, 23rd of November 2017, a small informal gathering was held at SA Police Head Quarters to recognise and present Dennis Obst with the award.
Congratulations Dennis.
