2016/17 Handover Speech – incoming President Andrew Stacey
Thank you to Lindsay Miller as, now, Immediate Past President. I feel really honoured to be able to hold this position and I thank you all for your support already.
Thank you to Immediate Past President, Lindsay, for his advice already and for what was accomplished under his presidency.
When I joined Lions only four years ago, I never intended to think about taking holding this position but I’m really looking forward to this coming year. I feel honoured in front of so many members here who have also held this position as well.
The two goals I think we should try to achieve in the next 12 months are to gain at least ten more members and increase our exposure out there in the community and help people understand what Lions do. While most people know of the Lions name, they are unsure what we do anymore. There are still people out there that don’t even know what Lions do at all and this really came to my attention his only the other night when I was asked by one of my basketball teammates what do Lions even do. So, I feel, we have a lot to do get the public understanding what we do.
As a club, we have so many members with so much experience and there’s a learning opportunity for us younger or less-experienced members to make the most of. As my background is a teacher, I think we should take on the ‘3 R’s’ but not the 3 R’s that we’re used to from school days, the new 3 R’s I think we should adhere to are:
- Reminisce – our more experienced members have so many stories to tell, I think it would be really valuable to reminisce on projects and achievements from the past for our less experienced members to listen to and build our understanding of our club together.
- Re-inspire – we have an opportunity to re-inspire our club with some more social events that I’ll unveil at a later date and have us working more closely together. After all, we need to enjoy each other’s company if we want to be a progressive club.
- Re-engage – I feel we need to re-engage ourselves with the positions that Lions clubs usually hold and this is to continue the work that Lindsay began with from last year.
Again, I thank everyone for their support and let’s have a great year.
