May was an epic month for events for The Lions Club of the City of Adelaide. On the 3rd of May, our Lions supported the ‘Paint the Parks & Gardens REaD’ project launch, supporting the Parks Children’s Centre. We cooked up a storm on a cold and wet afternoon/evening for those in attendance. This program is all about getting the whole community involved in getting children to read, talk, sing, draw from birth. A great initiative.
On Sunday May 6th, members set up the BBQ once again at Kensington YMCA to fundraise for the club while a sporting event was held in the stadium. Bacon and egg sandwiches, and a sausage sizzle. How can you resist that smell on a cold morning.
At our dinner meeting this month, our guest speaker Clinton Nottingham, a clinician from AudioClinic. Clinton presented about cochlear implants and hearing.
On May 10th we catered for the ‘Kids for Country’ event in the city. A fantastic event with over 650 kids and 100 adults in attendance. For this epic event, we called on the support of our friends at Prospect-Blair Athol Lions Club. It was a chilly, windy, wet day (on and off), but a fantastic one. It was so great to see so many kids running around smiling and having a great time. It was a great event to be involved with.
But the events didn’t stop there. We had another Fred’s Van in the city on May 21st, followed by another BBQ in Victoria Square in support of National Volunteers Week; an event we also supported last year. But wait, there’s more … we finished the month with a gourmet bbq breakfast for a private function.
Of course, in-between all of the above events, there was all the other bits and pieces that go on in the background to keep the club going. I don’t know about you, but we had a few tired members after such a busy month. What a great month it was. To think our members dedicate all this time and effort into events that raise money for great causes, as well as raising money for our Club’s many community projects. Our helps are 100% volunteers, and their time and efforts are valuable and truly appreciated. So thank you once again to our Lions members, families, friends and supporters for all that you do!
