The Lions Club of the City of Adelaide is proud to sponsor the ‘South Australian Citizen’s Award’, and to present it with the South Australia Police to the person who assists police in the their duties in the community.
Nominations are submitted by Local Service Areas, branches and sections of the South Australia Police from across the State of South Australia. Nominations are based on letters and Certificates of Appreciation which may have been presented to members of the public in recognition of assistance given to SAPOL in the performance of police duties during the past twelve months. The nominations were made and then judged by the award selection panel. The panel consists of members from The Lions Club of the City of Adelaide and senior members of SAPOL, with the Police Commissioner, Grant Stevens, ratifying the successful nomination.
It is with great pleasure that we officially announce that the recipient of the South Australian Citizen’s Award for 2020 is Mr Grant Fensom in recognition of his ongoing commitment to assist South Australia Police.
To give you an appreciation of Grant’s commitment, we would like to share with you the wording from his award citation:
“Grant bravely assisted Limestone Coast Police in the arrest of an armed offender who robbed a Port MacDonnell pharmacy in 2019. Grant was nearby while the robbery unfolded and, keeping a cool head, leapt into action. His quick thinking meant police were able to intercept and arrest the offender at gunpoint 15 kilometres from the robbery site without incident.
Grant has also contributed countless hours in his role as local Country Fire Service Brigade Captain. He takes this commitment to another level by making it a condition of employment in his engineering business that staff must contribute to the community by volunteering with a local service of their choosing. As an added incentive, their volunteer hours can be carried out in paid work tie, further highlighting Grant’s strong dedication and community spirit.”
On Wednesday, 21st of October 2020, a presentation and afternoon tea was held at the SA Police Club to recognise and present Grant Fensom with the award. We thank Grant for his time, dedication and support to SA Police and the community.
