This has been Maverick’s final month in training before his delivery. He has spent this month getting to enjoy some more relaxed walks (as we have been trying to avoid large crowds with the current covid outbreak). As always, he is a delight to take out as he walks on a nice loose lead during the entire walk. He has become less excited when passing birds again, still wags his tail and looks excited but will walk past without wanting to try and play with them.
We have ventured down to the beach for the first time where Maverick shocked me by absolutely loving the water and wanting to go for a swim! He was so excited by this that for the first time in his life he was actually pulling on the lead to get closer to the water so he could swim. He looked incredibly scruffy when he got out of the water and has a shake, as all his hair stood in different directions. It was obvious that his beach day had taken it out of him as on the long car ride back to the Training Centre, he did not wake up from his sleep by my feet.
He has continued to do well with his sound work, refining some of his skills and tailoring them to his new owner.
Maverick will be going to live in Victoria, meaning that he will get to fly on the plane for the first time. As he is a Hearing Assistance Dog this will mean that he gets to sit at my feet in the cabin of the plane. He will get the window seat to himself (he isn’t allowed to sit on the seat, he has to sit on the floor) and we will get to get on and off before all the other passengers.
I would like to thank you for all the support you have given to Maverick in his training. I know he has very much enjoyed meeting you all and he will continue to make a huge difference in someone’s life as a Hearing Assistance Dog.
