The first Border Terrier through the puppy program, Wynne, is working very successfully for his hard of hearing owner and recently been accredited, so there are high expectations for Maverick. I’m sure that Maverick will live up to those expectations as he is a very confident and inquisitive pup.
Maverick has had a great time at Puppy Preschool at ALHD. He is doing very well with his basic obedience. He has learnt ‘sit’, ‘drop’, ‘recall’, ‘stay’ and ‘watch’. He was so keen to do the recall exercise that he tried to go to each of the other carers when they were calling their pups!
He has played well off lead with the other 4 pups in class and he is learning to settle next to his carer in between play sessions. Pups need to learn when it is appropriate to play.
Maverick loved the class when I had a clam shell with plastic balls in it for all the pups to play in and get used to the feel of the different textures.
Maverick tends to eat his meals quite fast. He is fed in a separate area to the two older dogs he lives with because otherwise he would try to finish their meals for them too.
Colin and Barb’s adult son has enjoyed doing little obedience sessions with Maverick and taking him for walks around the farm.
He loves everyone he meets and will hopefully get the chance soon to visit a friend that resides in a nursing home. This will be great for Maverick and the lady looks forward to visits from various foster pups.
