The Lions Club of the City of Adelaide and Techspace Learning have partnered together to provide a scholarship fund to be available to support people who would like to participate in robotics and STEM related activities.
The very first recipient of this Lions Scholarship is Hayden. He is 13 years old and is in Year 7 at East Marden Primary School. Hayden was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD at a young age and has always struggled at school. In the last year, his mother Stacey had noted that he seemed to be able to focus better on science and technology related tasks at school. She investigated various places to find something that Hayden could engage with outside of the school environment. She found the Techspace Learning robotics workshops and the Lions Scholarship.
Hayden was successful in his application for the scholarship, and has been attending the Saturday morning workshops regularly. He thoroughly enjoys the workshops and it has been noted that he can concentrate and focus for long periods of time while programming microprocessors and building little gadgets. Hayden’s confidence levels have taken a strong upward turn, as he has found something that he is good at, and has found a group of people, his “tribe”, that can relate to him as well as he relates to them.
