It has been an exciting month for Maverick with him graduating from ALHD Puppy Preschool after successfully completing 4 weekly classes. For his last class, we had another pup Theo join the class for his first lesson and Maverick was able to demonstrate how to do the sit, drop, recall, watch and how to keep all four feet on the ground to get pats.
Maverick is a very clever pup and adjusts the way he plays with individual pups. He is also learning that if he is calm, he will then be allowed to socialise with another dog on his walks.
Maverick and another pup Maisie have been in the same class for the 4 weeks and they just adore each other. Maverick also got on very well with Louie (another Border Terrier pup). It will be fun to see them together again when they are 10 months old and start Hearing Assistance Dog training (big dog boarding school!).
Maverick has had his first visit to Colin and Barb’s friend in an Aged Care Facility. He was allowed up on the lady’s bed and he happily accepted lots and lots of cuddles from her. This was interesting as Barb describes Maverick as a very affectionate pup but not really interested in cuddles. I’m sure Maverick could sense how important the cuddles were to this lady.
The recall he learnt in puppy preschool has proved very beneficial when going for walks around the farm with Colin. As soon as Colin calls his name, he stops exploring and comes straight back to him. Well done Maverick!
