Maverick attended the Lions Hearing Dog Open Day on 18th April. He was fine around the large number of adults and children and also accredited Hearing Dogs that visited with their recipients.
People who meet Maverick are amazed at his laid back nature. He is a great ambassador for the ALHD program. He arrived with his regular foster carers Barb and Colin but went home with his temporary carer Brooke!
When Brooke heard that Maverick could only stay at the Open Day for a short time, she very quickly offered to volunteer to look after him for the rest of the Open Day and then take him home for the evening until Barb and Colin could pick him up. It is really lovely to see foster carers supporting each other like this.
Maverick charmed everyone at ALHD centre when he visited with Barb and Colin so that they could see their previous foster pup before he went to his new home as a Hearing Assistance Dog in Queensland.
Recently, Maverick has been a little reluctant to get into the car, even though he loves the actual car ride. We think that he wants the other two pet dogs to come with him but we need him to learn to take on new experiences by himself as well as with his friends.
Barb will start giving him a tasty treat when she puts his lead on to walk him to the car and occasionally he will get a special chew to have in the car to make the whole experience more positive.
