Over the last month Barb has been taking Maverick on nature walks exploring the Heysen Trail, in the Adelaide Hills. The recent Autumn weather has been perfect for this. They pass lots of different dogs on these walks and Maverick is always happy to say ‘Hello’.
However, we have discovered that Maverick has a little bit of a stubborn steak to him when it comes to going for a walk along a footpath and he would prefer to be rolling around on the nearby grass! Louie (another Border Terrier) joined us for our last walk around a residential area.
Both pups loved having a big play at the start and end of the walk. Louie walked in front and this kept Maverick interested in walking around the residential block. Maverick also enjoyed attention from people who stopped as they passed to pay him compliments….I think he might be a little vain as well as stubborn….oh, and so very cute!
On this walk we met a Chihuahua that was very nasty when meeting Maverick. He did not retaliate at all, showing what an amazingly good temperament he has. This also gave me a chance to explain what to do in these situations.
Maverick continues to enjoy following Colin around the farm at home and playing with their two pet dogs. He also likes to regularly check out the recycling box to see if anything in there would make a good toy. Barb makes toilet paper inner tubes into Bon Bon toys filled with treats for Maverick to have fun with and occupy his time.
